9th Annual Taste of the Garden: KP Youth Take Center Stage
Our 9th Annual Taste of the Garden on October 21st was a virtual event filled with inspiration, laughs, and delicious food. We were honored to uplift the voices of our student leaders and see our Instructors bringing life to our programs. Co-hosts Andria Tobin and Mentors, Inc. @ Kid Power protégé, Brooke, guided viewers through the event as guests virtually cooked along with our 5th-grade student chefs from J.O. Wilson Elementary and Executive Chef Kevin Tien.
We deepened our knowledge of community health in a community conversation with Dr. Beverley Wheeler, of DC Hunger Solutions, and Ronnie Webb of The Green Scheme. We were also inspired by our 2021 Excellence in Leadership Award recipient Mark Bucher, founder of Feed the Fridge. (Watch the video here).

Kid Power Building Awareness with Brex
Credit card company, Brex, chose Kid Power to be one of the featured organizations of their new advertising campaign! Through a recommendation, the Brex team was inspired by our programs and our young leaders and wanted to tell our story as a part of their campaign. Executive Director Andria Tobin and Program Coordinator and Kid Power Alumna Felicity Poussaint were interviewed for the campaign that resulted in beautiful photos and videos that were used on digital advertising for Brex and transit billboards across DC, Miami, and Houston, in addition to all social media platforms. The 8th Annual Taste of the Garden Goes Virtual
Our high-energy event emceed by Community Advocate and local Chef Robbie Wood showcased our VeggieTime program, in addition to presenting our 2020 Excellence in Leadership Award to Capital Area Food Bank and the 2020 Community Hero Award to Joanne Odom, Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. The event spotlight the important work of Kid Power, our families, instructors, and community leaders with impact stories, and of course, preparing a delicious 3-course meal with our featured Chef and his special guests! We are ecstatic to welcome Brian Ohlhausen to our Board of Directors! Previously, Brian was a dedicated mentor with Kid Power's mentoring program and served on Kid Power’s Advisory Board. Thank you to the Office of Out Of School Time (OST) for awarding Kid Power a $10,000 Capacity Building grant! The Capacity Building grant will support our strategic planning as we best analyze stakeholder needs and ideas to drive us forward in a post-pandemic environment. supervisor at Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, with years of technical accounting experience to provide assurance and tax services to her clients in the nonprofit sector. We are excited to announce the appointment of six new members to the Kid Power Board of Directors. Join us as we welcome Flannery Berg! Flannery is a nonprofit management consultant with experience in finance, operations, fundraising, and communications. Since 2017, Flannery has worked for BDO FMA, a financial management consulting firm comprised of accounting and management professionals dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations achieve their missions. Flannery leads BDO FMA’s Washington, DC office and has deep experience in financial analysis, financial planning and forecasting, and fiscal infrastructure development.
