KID POWER FUTURE SHINES BRIGHT WITH NEW ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS

We are excited to welcome the incredible individuals joining our Advisory Board! Their diverse expertise and passion align perfectly with our mission, and we are inspired by the knowledge and leadership they bring to Kid Power. With their support, we can amplify our impact and continue creating meaningful, lasting change for the young people and communities we support.

Marielys Garcia Daniels brings nearly two decades of education experience, focusing on educational equity. Her career includes roles as a high school teacher, school leader, and non-profit executive. She has extensive expertise in coaching, capacity building, professional development, school culture, and program management. In her most recent role as Chief of Staff for a DC charter network, Marielys enhanced the efficiency and productivity of executive leadership and school teams, driving collaboration and managing diverse initiatives.

She holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Columbia University’s Teachers College, a Master of Arts in Teaching from American University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University. In her spare time, Marielys enjoys cultural immersion through travel and spending quality time with her spouse and three-year-old twins.

Lisa Daughtrey is a dedicated mental health and homelessness advocate, motivational speaker, and TV & radio contributor. She is the founder and president of BE Eazy, an organization focused on educating communities about homelessness, suicide prevention, and mental health, emphasizing diverse cultures. A 33-year breast cancer survivor, Lisa is passionate about giving a voice to those affected by mental health struggles.

After losing her son to suicide in 2012, she launched a suicide prevention pilot program at TC Williams High School, leading to the integration of prevention programs in Alexandria Public Schools. Lisa has also organized numerous mental health workshops and sessions.

Lisa is a contributing author for Project Semicolon: Your Story Isn’t Over and Kevin Powell’s Writing Workshop, 2020: The Year that Changed America. Both publications reflect her journey of resilience and her commitment to improving lives, one story at a time. Lisa currently resides in Washington, DC, as a global IT consultant. She enjoys writing, adventure sports, and traveling in her spare time.

Sandra Eguida is excited to join Kid Power’s Advisory Board. She has called Washington, DC, home for nearly five years after moving to the area to pursue graduate studies at the University of Maryland. With three years of professional experience at PwC, Sandra has conducted audits for public companies and worked alongside multidisciplinary teams, gaining valuable insights through her work with clients from diverse backgrounds.

Sandra is passionate about leveraging her expertise to support Kid Power’s mission of empowering youth through education, leadership, and civic engagement. She looks forward to contributing to the organization’s growth and making a positive impact on the community, while collaborating with a talented and dedicated team.

Caroline Goodill is a dedicated educator committed to improving educational outcomes for all students. She currently serves as an instructional coach and mathematics teacher at District of Columbia Public Schools, where she designs academically rigorous and engaging learning experiences that nurture creativity, curiosity, and kindness. Caroline is licensed in middle childhood education and school administration and holds degrees from the University of Dayton and Harvard. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places, indulging in tacos, and competing in trivia competitions.

DaRon Joiner is a Senior Audit Associate at PwC, bringing expertise in auditing, accounting, and professional services to Kid Power’s Advisory Board. A Certified Public Accountant in the District of Columbia, DaRon holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree with honors from The University of Alabama. Originally from New Orleans, LA, he has worked with clients across various sectors, including non-profit, public, and private organizations. Passionate about making a positive impact, DaRon is aligned with Kid Power’s mission to inspire youth through education, leadership, and civic engagement.

Jerome Logan is a dedicated middle school social studies teacher at Friendship Public Charter School. After a successful career in service management and distribution operations, Jerome transitioned into education through the Black Male Teacher Residency (BMTR) at Friendship Public Charter School. He completed a rigorous three-year Master of Arts in Teaching program, equipping him with strong academic content knowledge and innovative teaching skills. Now a seasoned lead teacher, Jerome is committed to lifelong learning, both personally and professionally.

Jerome holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education and has received the Mindset Award for Diversity and Equity. A proud DC native and alumnus of DCPS (Dunbar SHS ’90), he is passionate about giving back to the community that shaped him. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, reading, and other activities that promote growth. He is also a father of three (Nyrue, Aja, and Kenya) and a grandfather to Nyrue, Jr.

Devika Modak is a managing director at POLITICO, where she leads a team focused on client success and campaign delivery. Her team is vital in driving go-to-market strategies that support growth opportunities and revenue drivers across the organization.

Before joining POLITICO, Devika gained extensive experience in management consulting and campaign strategy through roles at Deloitte, Navigant (now Guidehouse), and Purple Strategies. She holds an MBA in Strategic Management and Public Policy from The George Washington University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Mumbai. Devika is passionate about improving access to education and literacy, particularly for girls in underserved communities. She also strongly advocates diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and mentors junior to mid-level employees entering the workforce.

Devika was born and raised in Mumbai and has called Washington, DC home since 2008. She lives on Capitol Hill with her husband, two daughters, and their rescue Beagle mix.

Sam Myers Jr. is an advocacy and public affairs executive, currently serving as CEO of Place Public Affairs. He founded the firm to leverage the power of place and its influence on behavior, attitudes, and beliefs. Throughout his 30-year career, Sam has worked across three presidential administrations, every Democratic presidential campaign since 1996, and at national communications agencies, creating positive outcomes for a wide array of companies and U.S. communities. He has built a highly impactful network of advocates, allies, and media contacts and is excited to bring his expertise to support Kid Power’s mission.

Raquel Suarez is a dynamic nonprofit leader with over 10 years of experience in program development and project management in the social impact sector. Passionate about purpose-driven organizations, she has worked with a variety of institutions dedicated to creating more just, equitable, and thriving communities. As a first-generation college graduate, Raquel holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Virginia and a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from James Madison University.

KID POWER WELCOMES NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS

We are excited to announce the addition of our Board of Directors. These accomplished and passionate individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and diverse expertise to our organization. With their leadership, we are confident they will make a lasting, positive impact as we continue to drive our mission forward.

Patrick DiSalvo has worked for the past 16 years to educate, advocate, provide opportunities, and support young people, families, and communities in Harlem, New York, and the Washington, DC Metro region. Patrick began his work in education by teaching special education as a Teach for America Corps member. He then worked for Kid Power as a Site Director and Middle School Director and received a Master’s in Social Work at Catholic University in 2015. Since then, he practiced psychotherapy both at middle schools and high schools for seven years in Washington, DC, and then began working at a small practice in Maryland, serving youth, young adults, and parents with a variety of mental health needs. In September 2024, Patrick formed his agency, Patrick DiSalvo LCSWC, LLC, to provide psychotherapy services. He is thrilled to be a Kid Power Board of Directors member, as he has a passion for youth engagement and development in our region.

Brian Seliber is a Vice President and Business Banking Relationship Manager at Hingham Institution for Savings. He partners with business owners and nonprofit executives as their full-service banking advisor. Hingham is one of America’s oldest banks, and Washington, DC, is one of its newest markets. Before joining Hingham, Brian worked at City National Bank, where he was an original team member who opened the bank’s flagship office in the mid-Atlantic in 2018. Brian earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Washington & Lee University. He is an alumnus of the Leadership Montgomery Emerging Leaders Program. Brian proudly volunteers as a career advisor and fundraising captain with AsylumWorks, a local nonprofit organization providing direct services and support to asylum seekers and their families throughout the DC region. Brian’s dedication to supporting his community through volunteerism and mentorship exemplifies his commitment to making a meaningful impact both in and out of the workplace.

Nick Zillo is a proud DC native and serves as the Associate Director of Internal Audit & Financial Advisory at Protiviti, where he has amassed over 12 years of extensive experience in areas such as process improvement, risk management, business transformation, change management, quality management, internal audit, and assurance services. His expertise has been honed through work with a diversified portfolio of clients across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Nick is passionate about giving back to the DC community by supporting DC Public Schools. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Spanish from the University of Maryland, further shaping his commitment to fostering education and inspiring youth in the region. Nick’s enthusiasm for joining our Board of Directors reflects his dedication to our mission, and we are confident his leadership and vision will play a pivotal role in helping us achieve our goals. We are excited to work alongside him and look forward to the impact he will make.

We're excited to announce that Kid Power has been selected once again for the 2025 @worldbank Community Connections Campaign (CCC). Kid Power Board Member, Robin Weisman expressed, “I donate to Kid Power through the Community Connection Campaign because my donations are doubled!” These donations provide general support for our programs. We are honored to be part of the CCC list and deeply grateful to the World Bank community for their ongoing support.

Kid Power is thrilled to announce a $1,000,000 grant award from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). With this grant, Kid Power will address the academic, social, and emotional challenges faced by youth facing adversity in DC as well as Montgomery County, Maryland. We are thrilled to implement our multiphase mentoring program and impact our youth and the greater community. We extend our deepest gratitude to the OJJDP for this generous grant and for their support of our mission.
