AAAS Brings “The Science of Me” to D.C. Students Over the Summer 

Since its inception in 1986, Science in the Summer has brought free, hands-on science education activities to more than a quarter-million children around the country. This summer, that number grows as thousands of children are taking part in the newest Science in the Summer program featuring the science of the human body, “The Science of Me.” (Read More)

Today we recognize Juneteenth! This day is also referred to as Freedom Day or Emancipation Proclamation Day commemorates the end of slavery. History shows us that, slavery did not officially end until the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution on December 6, 1865, which abolished slavery entirely in all of the U.S. states and territories. Today we Reflect, Honor, and Celebrate!

We want to send out a huge thank you to the @usbotanicgarden for having our students participate in the "Hands On Plant Science" program. HOPS is a six-week program that enables DC youth to immerse themselves in the natural world. This year HOPS has transitioned to a virtual (but still hands -on) program. The USBG delivered HOPS backpacks to each student participating which included a microscope, journal, watercolors, and more! Our students are loving their backpacks! ...

In light of the current environment we want to highlight the powerful voices of our students. Kid Power Connect Student, Machi B., wrote a poem entitled Bang Bang. Uplifting the voice of our youth. Thank you Machi!

TODAY is Election Day! Now more than ever, voting is both a literally & figuratively essential activity. Visit https://bit.ly/3cw4jgy for the 20 polling places open, including addresses, wait times, and vote counts. Updates announced:

1.) Per @councilofdc it’s officially *OK* to be out after today’s 7PM curfew *IF* you are voting. Polls close at 8PM, & anyone still in line at 8PM will be allowed to vote.

2.) Absentee ballots must be postmarked by today & received by 6/9, to count; or drop it off today at a vote center. Want to check when your ballot was sent to you, or received back from you, by, @vote4dc? Check online at https://dcboe.org/Vot…/Absentee-Voting/Track-Absentee-Ballot or call 202-741-5283.

3.) Remember: if you requested your absentee ballot but did not receive it yet or if sent your ballot in & the DCBOE site does not yet show it as received, you’re still able to cast a provisional ballot in person at one of the 20 vote centers.
