“When I grow up I think I want to be a scientist because I like exploring and learning new things. I enjoy asking questions about why things happen and I especially love experiments.” -George, 6th grade student-
Kid Power is built on the belief that young people have the ideas, talent, and determination to shape their futures, and we’re here to support them every step. Through hands-on programs, strong school partnerships, and deep community roots, students sharpen their skills, grow their confidence, and take the lead in their learning. Our impact is possible because families, educators, and community members act alongside our youth. When we all show up, great things happen.

SUCCESS STORIES
A Decade of Trust and Transformation with
Stanton Elementary
Our partnership with Stanton Elementary began in 2013 when Kid Power received an invitation to provide After-School programming in conjunction with DC Scholars Community Schools. Recognizing the significance of expanding educational resources citywide, we embraced this opportunity to become Stanton’s primary Out-of-School Time program provider for 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students. Today, we continue to support students while fostering strong relationships with families and staff while building a foundation of trust, empowerment, and a shared vision with the school community. As 5th grader Ahmya puts it, “Kid Power should be open 24/7. I never want to leave!“

A Life-Changing Scholarship
Through the Community Mentoring Program, our youth build on their talents, grow their confidence, and unlock new opportunities. Former Kid Power protégé, Priscilla Barrera, delivered an inspiring speech about how the Mentoring Program shaped her life, saying, “When I was in high school, my school counselor suggested a mentoring program in DC. I was hesitant, but I’m so glad I did it. Coming from a working-class immigrant family, my parents were all aboard for college, but there were financial obstacles in the way. This all changed the day I was told I was granted the Mentoring Program’s River Road Scholarship for my whole time at college. Through (Kid Power) I was able to obtain a scholarship to attend my dream school, The University of Maryland.”
ADVOCACY IN ACTION
A Parent’s Voice: Why OST Should Be the Priority
“Supporting all our ideas will help in the advancement of economic opportunities for our children and families and continue to provide a different type of possible future for our children. Kid Power, Inc. is an organization I am proud to be a part of. My only child, has participated in the programs and has grown and thrived as well as myself. At Kid Power, the children light the way. OST should be the priority, never the exception.” Parent, Jennifer Speight testimony in favor of the Universal Out-of-School-Time Amendment Act

Investing in What Works for Students
“Last year, 100% of our students reported they felt they belong at school, and students feeling like they belong at school can change their relationship with education and help them build a positive academic identity. We are so grateful to see the Mayor stand with high-impact tutoring, and we urge you to protect and support the funding. We are thankful to DCPS for its continued collaboration and support. This collaboration helps create and sustain programs like ours. By investing in nonprofit programs like ours, you maximize public money by attracting additional financial support and community resources while allowing us to address academic deficits and create a nurturing environment for students to succeed.” High Impact Tutoring Director Sarah Pasqualini funding testimony to DC Chairman Mendelson and members of the Committee of the Whole.
