Dear Friend,

Happy April from Kid Power! We've survived the winter and are ready for some spring time excitement! As our students head into the home stretch of this busy school year, we want to share with you some of their achievements so far this school year!

Veggie Time

After a long, snowy winter, everyone at Kid Power is excited for spring! Students spent time designing their garden beds and helped select which crops they wanted to cultivate. Students at all of Kid Power's 10 program sites have begun planting, and we can't wait to taste everything from sweet potatoes to carrots!

Many program sites held family-cooking night this month, where students and their families made sweet potato and black bean tacos to share. Parents contributed 30 volunteer hours helping to prepare and serve these delicious and nutritious
tacos with their children!

Citizenship Project

Kid Power students have also proven their dedication to helping their school communities and the larger DC community. At Tubman Elementary School, students recently talked about the importance of kindness, empathy, and friendship. Here is an inspiring letter written by William Atkins:

Academics: Students are Hard at Work on the DC CAS

Kid Power students approached the DC CAS with a strong commitment to their academic achievements.  Across the sites, students and staff worked one-on-one and in small groups to ensure success in both reading and math. In the past month, students across all sites have spent at least an hour a day on their academics after-school and we are confident in their success on the DC CAS!
